Rules of the Road

1. Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using the Evenly mobile application ("Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

Evenly is an expense splitting and group finance management application that allows users to:

• Track shared expenses with friends and groups
• Split bills fairly using various methods
• Connect bank accounts to import transactions (via Plaid)
• Settle debts and balances

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use Evenly. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this age requirement.

4. Account Registration

Creating an Account

• You must provide accurate and complete information
• You are responsible for maintaining account security
• You must notify us immediately of unauthorized access
• You may not share your account credentials

Account Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that:

• Violate these Terms
• Engage in fraudulent activity
• Are inactive for more than 2 years

5. User Responsibilities

Permitted Use

• Track personal expenses with friends and groups
• Manage shared finances
• Import bank transactions for expense tracking

Prohibited Activities

You may NOT:

• ❌ Use the Service for illegal activities
• ❌ Attempt to harm or disrupt the Service
• ❌ Share false or misleading expense information
• ❌ Harass or abuse other users
• ❌ Reverse engineer or copy the app
• ❌ Create fake accounts or spam
• ❌ Use automated tools to scrape data

6. Financial Transactions

No Payment Processing

Evenly does NOT process payments. We only:

• Track who owes whom
• Suggest simplified settlements
• Record when users mark expenses as "settled"

User Responsibility

• You are responsible for actual payment to friends
• Evenly is not liable for disputes about settlements
• We don't guarantee debt collection

Bank Integration (Plaid)

• Bank connections are read-only
• We cannot initiate transactions
• You can disconnect banks anytime

7. Intellectual Property

Our Rights

Evenly, including all content, features, and functionality, is owned by us and protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. You may not:

• Copy or modify the app
• Create derivative works
• Sell, rent, or distribute the Service

Your Content

• You retain ownership of your expense data
• You grant us license to process and store your data
• You can export or delete your data anytime

8. Data and Privacy

Your use of Evenly is also governed by our Privacy Policy. Key points:

• We collect minimal personal information
• We use Firebase and Plaid as service providers
• We do not sell your data
• You can delete your account and data

9. Disclaimers

No Warranty

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

• Accuracy of expense calculations
• Availability and reliability
• Data accuracy or completeness
• Third-party bank data accuracy

Beta Features

Some features may be marked as "Beta". These are experimental and may:

• Not work as expected
• Be discontinued without notice
• Have bugs or errors

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, EVENLY SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:

• Lost profits or revenue
• Data loss
• Disputes between users
• Errors in expense calculations
• Service interruptions
• Third-party service failures (Plaid, Firebase)

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED $100 OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS (WHICHEVER IS GREATER).

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Evenly from claims arising from:

• Your use of the Service
• Your violation of these Terms
• Your violation of any law or third-party rights
• Disputes with other users

12. Third-Party Services

Plaid

Bank connectivity is provided by Plaid. You agree to Plaid's terms and privacy policy when connecting accounts.

Firebase

Our backend infrastructure uses Firebase (Google). Data is stored according to Firebase's terms.

Currency API

We use Frankfurter API for currency conversion. Rates may not be real-time or perfectly accurate.

13. Changes to Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of changes via:

• In-app notification
• Email
• App update notes

Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of new Terms.

14. Changes to Service

We reserve the right to:

• Modify or discontinue features
• Add new features or services
• Change pricing (if we introduce paid features)

We will provide reasonable notice for significant changes.

15. Export Compliance

You agree to comply with all export and re-export restrictions applicable to the software.

16. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of California, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.

17. Dispute Resolution

Informal Resolution

Before filing a claim, you agree to contact us at support@evenly-app.com to resolve disputes informally.

Arbitration

Any disputes will be resolved through binding arbitration rather than in court, except:

• Small claims court cases
• Intellectual property disputes

Class Action Waiver

You agree to resolve disputes individually, not as part of a class action.

19. Miscellaneous

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in effect.

Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Evenly.

Assignment

You may not assign these Terms without our consent. We may assign these Terms without restriction.

Waiver

Our failure to enforce any provision does not constitute a waiver of that provision.

20. App-Specific Terms

iOS App Store

Your use is also subject to Apple's App Store Terms of Service.

In-App Purchases (Future)

If we introduce premium features:

• Purchases are final and non-refundable (except as required by law)
• Subscriptions auto-renew unless canceled
• Manage subscriptions in iOS Settings
